Will an ICD always protect me from a cardiac arrest?

ICDs like every other intervention that we use, do not offer you 100% protection. However, the reassuring thing is that they’re getting more and more advanced and they will, get out of an irregular rhythm or a death rhythm if you want, someone who has experienced a cardiac arrest. However, ICDs do not give you 100% protection and there have been incidences of people who go into a very irregular heart rhythm, and despite the ICD intervention, the irregular heart rhythm still continues and they remain unconscious. And in that particular instance, if the paramedics were to arrive, and place an automated external defibrillator, they should treat that patient as they would treat any other patient with, or without, an ICD.
