October last year I attended a heart screening through CRY.

I thought I would be in and out in 10 mins so my husband was waiting in the car with my 2 kids.

My initial ECG picked up some abnormalities so I was asked to wait and was then given an echocardiogram. I was seen by the consultant and told that my echocardiogram had picked up that I had mild aortic regurgitation – this means that one of my heart valves doesn’t close properly causing blood to leak back into the heart.

I was given the all clear that day. Thank goodness as I was running a marathon the next day! I was having a major panic about that waiting in the waiting room! 🫣

I have touched base with my GP and will be given another echocardiogram in 2 years time.

I am so thankful I went for the screening that day as I had no symptoms of my condition! There are people that go to these screenings and serious heart conditions come to light that wouldn’t have, without these screenings.

Screening is open to 14-35 years olds – if you are eligible or have children in that age range please get tested! 🙏🏻

This is why I am raising money for CRY an amazing organisation that is preventing young sudden cardiac deaths through awareness, screening and research, and supporting affected families.
