Last year, on the 28th of August, it was a normal day for me and I was skating down the road like I do everyday as I skateboard everywhere. Around 5 pm, when I was skating down the road, my heart just stopped with no warning at all!
I remember waking up in hospital thinking, “why am I here, did I fall of my skateboard really badly?” Later on I got told that my heart stopped for 11 minutes and I was in a coma like state for days fighting for my life. If I died for 15 minutes it would have been fatal and I got told that I will have to be on tablets for the rest of my life. When I got stable, they moved me to a normal ward and then discussed with me about having a pacemaker fitted. It was an option but I got an S-ICD fitted and they told me that I can basically live a normal life. I am monitored weekly but it’s a small thing to know that I have a back-up that hopefully I never need.
I skateboard almost everyday, just got back from snowboarding in another country and am thankful to everyone that supported me and helped me with everything. They told me I do not need to restrict myself.
